#92 The Blower’s Daughter- Damien Rice/Alice Kristiansen

I can’t take my mind off you….
‘Til I find somebody new.

Blower’s Daughter is fairly cryptic- but it seems to be a song about obsession, infatuation and voyeurism. We have a guy watching a girl from afar, imagining a life with her. Eventually the relationship is consummated. But things inevitably turn sour–mostly due to him being infatuated rather than really in love with her.

The Blower's Daughter Meaning

After the breakup, the narrator is no longer watching her, but having the same obsessive feelings towards her. Now, instead of obsessively watching her he can’t take his mind off her. The only thing he can think to do to remedy the situation is to find someone new to obsess over.

The pace of the song sounds great with the piano and guitar. That is a testament to the beautiful melody. That is what really carries the song. Also, the mystery behind “The Blower’s Daughter”, which is such a great title. It conveys youth, mystery and perhaps forbidden love.

Damian Rice blower's daughter meaning

Both the Damien Rice original and the Alice Kristiansen cover of “The Blower’s Daughter” are amazing. Kristiansen’s cover adds a bit of melody to the song that makes it slightly better. Rice’s version conveys the meaning of the song better. Both versions are great.

The Blower’s Daughter Lyrics

And so it is just like you said it would be,
Life goes easy on me,
Most of the time.
And so it is the shorter story;
No love, no glory,
No hero in her sky.

I can’t take my eyes off you.
I can’t take my eyes off you.
I can’t take my eyes off you.
I can’t take my eyes off you.
I can’t take my eyes off you.
I can’t take my eyes.

And so it is just like you said it should be,
We’ll both forget the breeze,
Most of the time.
And so it is the colder water,
The Blower’s daughter,
The pupil in denial.

I can’t take my eyes off you,
I can’t take my eyes off you.
I can’t take my eyes off you,
I can’t take my eyes off you.
I can’t take my eyes off you,
I can’t take my eyes.

Did I say that I loathe you?
Did I say that I want to leave it all behind?

I can’t take my mind off you,
I can’t take my mind off you.
I can’t take my mind off you,
I can’t take my mind off you.
I can’t take my mind off you,
I can’t take my mind.
My mind, my mind,
‘Til I find somebody new.
