#493 My Heart Will Go On- Celine Dion

Love can touch us one time/
And last for a lifetime.

Try to remember the first time you heard Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On”. I remember feeling so emotional and overcome by the performance. This song has been overplayed so much that it almost becomes annoying. That is one of the most difficult aspects of making a good top 500 songs list—is finding a way to get past that feeling and just analyze the song. I want my songs to have great melodies that make an emotional impact, and “My Heart Will Go On” delivers on this, or at least it did the first 100 times I heard it.

My Heart Will Go On Meaning
Celine Dion

“My Heart Will Go On” is a very well-written song. The way it changes key a half step up to heighten the emotion plays right into Dion’s powerhouse, as she loves to belt out the high notes. The Irish instrumentation (to fit The Titanic theme) adds to the song and makes it unique in pop.  I also have to point out that the lyrics do a great job of representing the emotion for the movie. It is great to have a great song written for your movie, but when the lyrics match the climax perfectly…that is something special.

My Heart Will Go On Lyrics

Every night in my dreams,
I see you, I feel you.
That is how I know you go on.

Far across the distance,
And spaces between us.
You have come to show you go on.

Near, far, wherever you are,
I believe that the heart does go on.
Once more you open the door,
And you’re here in my heart.
And my heart will go on and on.

Love can touch us one time,
And last for a lifetime.
And never let go ’til we’re gone.

Love was when I loved you,
One true time I’d hold to.
In my life we’ll always go on.

Near, far, wherever you are,
I believe that the heart does go on.
Once more you open the door,
And you’re here in my heart.
And my heart will go on and on.

You’re here, there’s nothing I fear,
And I know that my heart will go on.
We’ll stay forever this way,
You are safe in my heart and
My heart will go on and on.

Songwriters: James Horner / Will Jennings
