The best songs of all-time about discovering new love and new relationships. Some of the sweetest songs are written about new love.

#367 Yours- Ella Henderson

And I will find my strength to untame my mouth/
When I used to be afraid of the words.

In “Yours”, Ella Henderson describes the feelings she currently feels in her relationship. She is in love, and ready to say it but there is still that last hesitation. She doesn’t express the “whys” she feels uncomfortable taking the next step in the relationship. The specifics are unimportant, but we know without her saying that it is because she is afraid of being hurt. This song is her way of “untaming her mouth” and expressing her love. This song is her way of telling her man “I’m yours”, whereas before she was unable.

Yours Meaning
Ella Henderson

There is so much to like about this song. The simple piano arrangement really works well with Henderson’s powerful vocal. We feel the emotion she is trying to convey behind her words. The vocal feels very raw and real, as if these words mean something to her. And in turn, this makes them mean something to us. That is the key to the power of the song. It is a woman first revealing that she wishes to be with her lover.

Yours Lyrics

I wear your winter coat,
The one you love to wear.
So I keep feeling close,
To us beyond compare.
The moment we can have,
You catch me in your eyes.
That beauty on my pillow,
That holds me in the night.

And I will find my strength to untame my mouth,
When I used to be afraid of the words.
But with you I’ve learned just to let it out,
Now my heart is ready to burst.

‘Cause I, I feel like I’m ready for love.
And I wanna be your everything and more.
And I know every day you say it,
But I just want you to be sure,
That I’m yours.

And if I’ve been feeling heavy,
You take me from the dark.
Your arms they keep me steady,
So nothing could fall apart.

And I will find my strength to untame my mouth,
When I used to be afraid of the words.
But with you I’ve learned just to let it out,
Now my heart is ready to burst.

‘Cause I, I feel like I’m ready for love.
And I wanna be your everything and more.
And I know every day you say it,
But I just want you to be sure.
That I’m yours.
That I’m yours.

#362 Colour My World- Chicago

Promise your love, that I’ve waited to share…

“Colour My World” is an early song from Chicago. Chicago would gain a lot of fame in the late 70s and 80s when Peter Cetera became their lead singer. “Colour My World” was pre-Cetara. Terry Kath sings lead. There are many things to like about this song.

The piano is a huge standout. It is a unique pattern to play underneath the lyrics, and it also sounds great as a solo in the intro. The outro flute solo sounds great as well. The flute plays an entire verse, so it is quite a substantial solo. And, of course, Kath’s voice sounds great. He emotes just the right amount.

Colour My World Meaning
Chicago

The lyrics are short and simple but they express a deep excitement and hope that Kath is able to bring to life. The details are lacking but it sounds like the narrator and his love have known each other for some time but have only recently begun to explore a relationship. He is excited! He cannot wait for his life to be colored by the new love that is in his life.

Colour My World Lyrics

As time goes on,
I realize,
Just what you mean
To me.
And now,
Now that you’re near,
Promise your love,
That I’ve waited to share.
And dreams
Of our moments together,
Color my world with hope of loving you.

#354 Day After Day- Badfinger

I remember finding out about you/
Every day, my mind is all around you.

Badfinger’s “Day After Day” is a declaration of love. It sounds very Beatles-esque. Part of the reason is that everyone in the early seventies was influenced heavily by The Beatles, but also because this song was produced by George Harrison. Do you recognize the slide guitar? It is Harrison.

Day After Day Meaning
Badfinger

This song shares a similar theme with The Hollies “The Air That I Breathe”. “Day After Day” is about a guy talking about his experiences in relation to his bedroom. He remembers the times in his room before he met the girl: he would think of her and he was lonely. He was not certain if she knew he existed. Now, he is remembering times they have been together intimately. The thought of just holding her makes him warm.

In more general terms, the song is about the infatuation you feel when you first began to have feelings for another person. Your mind becomes a bit obsessive as that seems to be all you can think about.

Interestingly, the narrator suspects that she does not quite share the same feelings for him that he does for her. He knows he loves her, and he is waiting for her to find her way there too. Hopefully he won’t wait too long.

Day After Day Lyrics

I remember finding out about you
Every day, my mind is all around you
Looking out from my lonely room, day after day
Bring it home, baby, make it soon
I give my love to you

I remember holding you while you sleep
Every day, I feel the tears that you weep
Looking out of my lonely gloom, day after day
Bring it home, baby, make it soon
I give my love to you

Looking out of my lonely room, day after day
Bring it home, baby, make it soon
I give my love to you

I remember finding out about you
Every day, my mind is all around you
Looking out of my lonely gloom, day after day
Bring it home, baby, make it soon
I give my love to you.
