#257 Foxey Lady- Jimi Hendrix

Yeah, I’m tired of wasting all my precious time/
You got to be all mine, all mine.

The lyrics of Jimi Hendrix “Foxey Lady” are about as straight-forward as you can get. Jimi sees a hot woman and he is not going to waste his or her time; nor is he gonna do her harm. He made up his mind, he is going to take her home tonight. Listen to the song. How could she resist? Here he comes!

Foxey Lady Foxy Lady Meaning
Jimi

The guitar work is amazing, but what makes it more so, is that Hendrix is playing it while he is singing. If you notice, the guitar work is a lead guitar piece throughout. Most guitarist will play rhythm while they sing and let someone else play lead guitar. Almost every guitar player does it this way.

It is just too hard to do both well at the same time due to the different rhythms involved. Very few people can do it. Three names come to mind: Hendrix, Buckingham and Clapton. I would rank them in that order. Also, listen to that introduction with the distortion. That simply wasn’t done before.

I have no idea about the spelling of “Foxey Lady” but it was originally spelled that way, not “Foxy Lady”.

Foxey Lady Lyrics

Foxey, foxey
You know you’re a cute little heart breaker, ha
Foxey, yeah
And you know you’re a sweet little love maker, ha
Foxey

I want to take you home, haha yeah
I won’t do you no harm no, ha
You got to be all mine, all mine
Ooh foxey lady, yeah
Foxey, foxey
Now-a I see you come down on the scene
Oh foxey

You make me want to get up and a scream
Foxey, oh baby listen now
I’ve made up my mind
Yeah, I’m tired of wasting all my precious time
You got to be all mine, all mine
Foxey lady
Here I come
Foxey

Yeah
I’m gonna take you home
I won’t do you no harm no
You got to be all mine, all mine
Foxey lady
Here I come baby, I’m commin’ to get ya

Ooh foxey lady yeah yeah
You look so good foxey
Oh yeah foxey

#250 Maybe I’m Amazed (live)-Paul McCartney

Maybe I’m a man and maybe you’re the only woman/
Who could ever help me.

Make sure you listen to the right version of Paul McCartney’s “Maybe I’m Amazed”…the one they play on the radio is Paul McCartney playing with his band Wings. That is the good version. Other versions sound stilted and stale. In this concert McCartney sounds energized and his piano playing is on point. The guitar solos sound great. There is just so much energy in this recording. This would be McCartney’s signature song as a solo artist.

Maybe I'm Amazed Meaning
Paul McCartney on acoustic

The lyrics on “Maybe I’m Amazed” fairly basic. It is about the excitement of meeting a new woman. The promise. The infatuation. Everything seems amazing because there have been no hurdles yet in the relationship. They are in the honeymoon phase. Paul admits that he is lonely, and this just might be exactly what he needs—almost to get his life back on track. “Maybe I’m Amazed” is an optimistic song about the power of love and the hope that comes when you meet someone special.

Maybe I’m Amazed Lyrics

Maybe I’m amazed at the way you love me all the time
Maybe I’m afraid of the way I love you
Maybe I’m amazed at the the way you pulled me out of time
And hung me on a line
Maybe I’m amazed at the way I really need you

Maybe I’m a man and maybe I’m a lonely man
Who’s in the middle of something
That he doesn’t really understand

Maybe I’m a man and maybe you’re the only woman
Who could ever help me
Baby won’t you help me understand

Maybe I’m a man and maybe I’m a lonely man
Who’s in the middle of something
That he doesn’t really understand

Maybe I’m a man and maybe you’re the only woman
Who could ever help me
Baby won’t you help me understand

Maybe I’m amazed at the way you’re with me all the time
Maybe I’m afraid of the way I leave you
Maybe I’m amazed at the way you help me sing my song
Right me when I’m wrong
Maybe I’m amazed at the way I really need you

#182 Never Going Back Again- Fleetwood Mac

She broke down and let me in/
Made me see where I’ve been.

“Never Going Back Again” is a Lindsay Buckingham song from Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours. Some of his work on that album is quite contentious due to his fallout with Stevie Nicks. However, the lyrics in this song are playful and optimistic about a new love. He is hopeful he will not repeat the same mistakes that have damaged his past relationships. He’s “never going back again”.

Never Going Back Again meaning
Fleetwood

All that guitar work is Lindsay on one guitar. It is ridiculous. It sounds like there are several being used, or some sort of overdub, but no. The girls provide some slight harmonies for the song and those sound nice, but they are used sparsely.

This song is a big contrast to the other songs on the album that are highly produced, dark and with contentious lyrics about breakups and dreary commentaries on love (in the best way!).

Never Going Back Again Lyrics

She broke down and let me in.
Made me see where I’ve been.

Been down one time,
Been down two times,
I’m never going back again.

You don’t know what it means to win.
Come down and see me again.

Been down one time,
Been down two times,
I’m never going back again.
