So find another fool like before/
Cause I ain’t gonna live anymore believing/
Some of the lies while all of the signs are deceiving.
“Eye in the Sky” is a great concept for a song. Alan Parsons has a revelation, and all of the sudden he sees through all the BS that his lover has been peddling to him. Everything in his life becomes clear. He looks at her differently now. It almost feels like a God-like power. He now has the Eye in the Sky to see the truth. Where was it all these years?
He tells her don’t even bother lying—I see you for what you are now, and nothing is going to change my mind. While it is said that he is discovering his “power” under these circumstances, he feels a slight surge of confidence in seeing the Truth finally. And he brags about it a bit.
Eric Woolfson sings most of the song as if he is emotionally removed from the matter. It is like he is stating the facts. But we start to hear his emotion come out near the end as he sings “Cause I ain’t gonna live anymore believing/ Some of the lies while all of the signs are deceiving.”
The songs unique sound is created by using bass, keyboards and drums primarily. I believe the drums may be programmed. A little electric guitar is added at the end for flavor. He also uses a cool technique that Motown uses a lot: his background singers repeat lines in a way such that they sound like they are friends behind him also chiding the woman for lying. Kind of like using your background singers to have your back when you’re down.
Eye In the Sky Lyrics
Don’t think sorry’s easily said
Don’t try turning tables instead
You’ve taken lots of Chances before
But I’m not gonna give anymore
Don’t ask me
That’s how it goes
Cause part of me knows what you’re thinkin’
Don’t say words you’re gonna regret
Don’t let the fire rush to your head
I’ve heard the accusation before
And I ain’t gonna take any more
Believe me
The sun in your Eyes
Made some of the lies worth believing
I am the eye in the sky
Looking at you
I can read your mind
I am the maker of rules
Dealing with fools
I can cheat you blind
And I don’t need to see any more
To know that
I can read your mind, I can read your mind
Don’t leave false illusions behind
Don’t cry cause I ain’t changing my mind
So find another fool like before
Cause I ain’t gonna live anymore believing
Some of the lies while all of the signs are deceiving
I am the eye in the sky
Looking at you
I can read your mind
I am the maker of rules
Dealing with fools
I can cheat you blind
And I don’t need to see any more
To know that
I can read your mind, I can read your mind
Songwriters: Alan Parsons / Eric Norman Wolfson
This wasn’t sung by Parsons, it was sung by Eric.
It’s a song inspired by Orwells 1984.
Nothing to do with a relationship, but control by the state – Big Brother is watching you and the reality is, it’s now true.
