Peace came upon me and it leaves me weak
So sleep, silent angel go to sleep
Sometimes the love you share with another person is enough to make you content. That is all you really need…of course, that and the air that you breathe. The narrator is singing that he is so sated that he has need of nothing else but air and his lover. He doesn’t need cigarettes, books, light, just her. In fact, if her were to offer him a wish, he wouldn’t take it because he has everything he needs right now.
The Holies’ “The Air That I Breathe” blends many influences…or at least hints at them. It sounds close to the disco era of ABBA with its chorus but its versus sound straight out of the rock of the 60s. It also has some heavy orchestration as was popular in 60s pop. There is a little bit of everything in “The Air That I Breathe”. It is an interesting blend.
The Air That I Breathe Lyrics
If I could make a wish
I think I’d pass
Can’t think of anything I need
No cigarettes, no sleep, no light, no sound
Nothing to eat, no books to read
Making love with you
Has left me peaceful warm and tired
What more could I ask
There’s nothing left to be desired
Peace came upon me and it leaves me weak
So sleep, silent angel go to sleep
Sometimes all I need is the air that I breathe
And to love you
All I need is the air that I breathe
Yes to love you
All I need is the air that I breathe
Peace came upon me and it leaves me weak
So sleep, silent angel go to sleep
Sometimes all I need is the air that I breathe
And to love you
All I need is the air that I breathe
Yes to love you
All I need is the air that I breathe
Sometimes all I need is the air that I breathe
And to love you
All I need is the air that I breathe
Yes to love you
All I need is the air that I breathe
And to love you
All I need is the air that I breathe
Yes to love you
