All you have to do is close your eyes/
And just reach out your hands and touch me.
Extreme’s “More Than Words” is about a relationship between two people who speak different love languages. The woman wants to hear him say “I love you”, and she tells him that she loves him. However, that is not what he needs from her. He wants her touch. He is telling her, “look, reach out and touch me every once and a while and I’ll know you love me.” We don’t know how this particular relationship turns out, but we can relate to the problem of the to characters in the story.
With “More Than Words”, Extreme has a beautiful melody and nice harmonies. The acoustic guitars are also used as percussion in the song, which provides a unique sound. There is a lot of sound coming out of the speakers from just two guys with two guitars. Unfortunately, this would be Extremes only hit, but what a great hit it is.
More Than Words Lyrics
Saying I love you
Is not the words I want to hear from you
It’s not that I want you
Not to say, but if you only knew
How easy it would be to show me how you feel
More than words is all you have to do to make it real
Then you wouldn’t have to say that you love me
‘Cause I’d already know
What would you do if my heart was torn in two
More than words to show you feel
That your love for me is real
What would you say if I took those words away
Then you couldn’t make things new
Just by saying I love you
More than words
La di da, da di da, di dai dai da
Now I’ve tried to talk to you and make you understand
All you have to do is close your eyes
And just reach out your hands and touch me
Hold me close don’t ever let me go
More than words is all I ever needed you to show
Then you wouldn’t have to say that you love me
‘Cause I’d already know
What would you do if my heart was torn in two
More than words to show you feel
That your love for me is real
What would you say if I took those words away
Then you couldn’t make things new
Just by saying I love you
